FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHEN IS THE CATS ANGELS THRIFT STORE/ADOPTION CENTER OPEN?
The Thrift Store/Adoption Center is open Monday through Saturday, 11 AM – 5 PM
WHAT ITEMS DO YOU TAKE FOR DONATION AT THE THRIFT STORE AND WHEN CAN I DROP THEM OFF?
The Cats Angels Thrift Store accepts books, household items and decorations, furniture, appliances, luggage, and baby items. Please make sure the items are clean and in working order. You can drop them off at our Thrift Store during business hours – Monday through Friday, 11 AM – 5 PM. We do not accept clothing, but you can take them to the Buy Gones consignment store on 7th Street and donate them under the Cats Angels account.
MY KITTEN IS SO YOUNG, IS IT REALLY IMPORTANT TO HAVE HIM/HER FIXED SO EARLY?
Yes it is. Most cats reach sexual maturity between 5 and 7 months of age. Males will begin to spray and wander at this age, and females can become pregnant. Young cats recover much quicker from spaying/neutering surgery than older cats do. Sterilization will make your cat a much more enjoyable pet.
MY CAT NEVER GOES OUTDOORS, IS SPAYING/NEUTERING REALLY AN ISSUE?
Yes. Once your cat reaches sexually maturity they will try every trick in the book to get to the great outdoors.
Instinct tells them to find a receptive mate. Not only will unwanted pregnancy and negative behavior be avoided, but you will reduce, and may even eliminate, several forms of cancer that can occur in intact felines later in life.
I HAVE SEEN A FEW FLEAS ON MY CAT, IS THAT NORMAL?
No and with the advancements made in flea control you can eliminate fleas on dogs and cats. Fleas feed on blood. They bite their host (cat, dog, even human) and suck blood to feed their eggs. This is not only uncomfortable, but can lead to tapeworms in dogs and cats. With a heavy infestation your pet may even become anemic and possibly die.
I USE THE FLEA CONTROL I PURCHASE FROM MY LOCAL DISCOUNT AND GROCERY STORE. IS THIS SAFE?
No. There are many cases of pets having adverse neurological reactions to over-the-counter flea and tick control products. These products simply do not work as well as the products purchased from your local vet. So not only are you taking a chance your pet may become ill, but you are wasting money. Most vets sell flea control in monthly packages.
WHERE CAN I SEE YOUR CATS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION?
On this website under the Adoptions page, you can view our list of offsite adoption locations and a link to take you to Petfinder. Our Adoption Center in Fernandina Beach is open Monday through Saturday from 11AM – 5 PM. Call first and arrange for an Adoption volunteer to meet you.
WHAT IS THE ADOPTION PROCESS?
After you have met the cat you would like to adopt, you will need to fill out a Cats Angels Adoption Form. Based on the information provided, we can proceed with the adoption.
WHAT IF THE CAT I ADOPT GETS SICK?
By observation, we feel that the cats available for adoption are healthy. If you have any concern during the first 5 days after adoption, you must contact us and we will make arrangements for your cat to visit with our vets. It will be your responsibility if you take the cat to your vet or an illness appears after 5 days.
WHAT IF THE ADOPTION IS NOT WORKING OUT?
Contact us immediately if you think the adoption is not working out. We can provide suggestions and support that may help. If you still feel the adoption is not working out, we can refund your adoption fee up to 3 weeks after the adoption or you can choose another cat. However, you must contact us to make arrangements.
I’M MOVING AND MUST GET RID OF MY CAT. WILL CATS ANGELS TAKE HER?
We only take surrendered cats that were adopted from Cats Angels.
THERE ARE LOTS OF CATS DUMPED IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. THE NEIGHBORS ARE FEEDING THEM AND THEY ARE A REAL NUISANCE. WILL CATS ANGELS COME TO GET THEM AND TAKE THEM AWAY?
No, you must call your local animal control or humane society to do that. However, if your neighbors want to continue being caregivers for the cats, Cats Angels can help with trapping, spaying or neutering, and returning the cats to the neighborhood.
WE RECENTLY GOT A NEW PUPPY FROM A FRIEND AND WANT TO GET HER SPAYED. WE CHECKED WITH SEVERAL VETS AND WE SIMPLY CAN’T AFFORD THE COST. WILL CATS ANGELS FIX HER?
Contact First Coast No More Homeless Pets at 904-425-0005 for information on their lower cost spay and neuter assistance.
MY CAT GOT OUT AND GOT PREGNANT BEFORE WE COULD GET HER FIXED. SHE JUST HAD 5 KITTENS. I WANT TO KEEP MY CAT, BUT CANNOT KEEP HER KITTENS. CAN CATS ANGELS HELP?
Cats Angels can assist with getting your cat spayed and returned to you. If you will foster the kittens, we will assist with having them spayed or neutered and place them in our adoption program. However, you will need to take responsibility to foster the kittens until they are adopted.
